When I started my bird walk in the Arboretum this morning at 6:30 it was 59 degrees, overcast with a wind from the north. It felt like the first day of fall. It was so invigorating I walked over 4 hours and covered over 4 miles. I know this cool weather won't last and summer will return but it was a nice respite from the heat.

I've got the windows open letting some fresh air cross my desk as I sit at the computer and compose the bird report for the past week. It feels good and smells good and the weather prediction for the rest of the week is warm with low humidity. You know what that means? It's a great time to go birding as well as wild flowering, butterflying, dragon flying, frogging, canoeing, kayaking, gardening and all those other great outdoor activities.

In a unique partnership, this fall our class is joining students and scientists across North America to track the monarch butterfly's migration to Mexico. As the migration progresses from September to November, students will learn about migration mysteries.
