Colorful Blooms
Tulips Emerging
Reports of tulips emerging in the western half of the United States continued to be submitted earlier in the month while some Journey North gardeners in the northern latitudes—where fluctuating spring weather is still bringing cool, winter-like conditions—are now reporting emerging tulips in their areas.
Alfreda in Standing Rock, NM: "Tse’ii’ahi’ Community School 2nd grade tulips" (04/06/2023)
Brian in St. Paul, MN: "The giant snowbank/glacier finally receded from over our tulips. One tulip is even pushing up through a thin layer of ice." (04/10/2023)
Tulips Blooming
From the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts, reports of blooming tulips are picking up.
Elaine in San Anselmo, CA: "The test tulips are finally starting to bloom! After so much rain we have finally had a few sunny days. We expect more will be blooming soon!" (03/31/2023)
Denise in Creve Coeur, MO: "We had our first bloom!" (04/03/2023)
Mark in Tuttle, OK: "6 more have bloomed since this picture was taken." (04/05/2023)
Report Your Observations
If you planted a Tulip Test Garden last fall, don't forget to report twice: when tulips EMERGE and when tulips BLOOM.
Signs of Spring
What makes you think of spring? Are you noticing other signs of the spring season besides tulips? Report these observations to Journey North. Use the reporting category ‘All Other Signs of Spring’ to document these phenological signs. Let us know what you are observing!
April is Citizen Science Month!
Citizen Science Month encompasses online events and opportunities to contribute to citizen science initiatives. This April, Journey North celebrates our citizen scientists and encourages you to join this important effort by submitting your observations.
