Queridos amigos,

Dear friends,
The transition from winter to spring at the Monarch Biosphere Reserve in Central Mexico used to be gradual and moderate. Today changes in temperatures have been more dramatic and extreme. It is not unusual to go from cold temperatures of a few centigrades to fairly warm temperatures of 15-20 centigrades.

Dear Western Monarch Friends,
Few monarchs remain in coastal overwintering sites as monarchs expand their range and search for milkweed in nearby inland foothills. The Spring Migration is now fully in progress with reports of multiple monarchs in milkweed patches and first sightings of monarch eggs and larvae recorded. Keep an eye out for monarchs!

Dear friends,
As we approach the end of winter, local farmers prepare the soil trilling steep hills for corn planting. The planting of corn, an important crop in our indigenous culture, marks the beginning of the spring.
Local visitors crowd the sanctuaries during the weekends while visitors from North America, Europe and Asia, visit during the weekdays.
