Migration Is Not Done Yet

November 9, 2021 by Team Journey North
Fall migration is nearing the end, but some hummingbirds remain on the move. If you're still observing hummingbird activity, keep reporting!

Still Stragglers in the Midwest and Ontario

There are still reports of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in areas quite far from their overwintering grounds but most have headed south.

Gesine in Lincoln, ON: "Well, the juvenile male is still here enjoying the warm beautiful sunshine in Niagara and, according to the Weather Station, is to continue all this coming week. He is drinking a lot and still coming about every 10 to 15 minutes. Picture was taken at 9:57 a.m. DST." (11/07/2021)

Kat in Council Bluffs, IA: "I couldn't believe it! Saw a hummingbird at my feeder this morning. We have had some nights with a hard freeze already." (11/09/2021)

Rufous Along the Gulf Coast and Rubies in South Florida

Passing through or here to stay? Some Rufous Hummingbirds and Ruby-throated Hummingbirds overwinter along the Gulf Coast and into Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Keep reporting if you observe hummingbirds in these states over the winter months.
