September: Fueling Up

September 1, 2020 by Team Journey North
Flocks of robins are on the move, filling up on plentiful fruits and juicy berries.

September is Here

Robins that had three or four broods may still be raising young. As day length grows shorter, robins become restless and social. Flocks of robins are on the move, filling up on plentiful fruits and juicy berries. They are building up their body fat as fuel for fall migration.

From Cambridge, MA: Katherine writes, "A grouping of [20] males, females and juveniles feeding on the ground, mid-morning. Weather hot,mid-80s. Cold front and scattered t-storms came through later, about 6:30 PM. Groups of chimney swifts, and a few green darners appeared right ahead of and behind the front. Will be interested to see if the robins rode out on it also, or are just grouping up." (08/25/2020)
