"Tulips Seem to Know Just the Right Time to Come Up!”
Tulips Emerging
From Kodiak, Alaska and Edmonton, the capital of Canada's Alberta province, all the way to Cumberland Foreside, locate on the coast of Southern Maine, Journey North members are reporting tulip emergence -- but more reports are needed. From our fall list of test gardens, we know there are many Tulip Test Gardeners who have not yet entered their emergence dates. Please don't forget to report your tulip emergence dates!
From Colorado Springs, CO: Tim’s comment encapsulated what other Journey North members observed across the US this winter: “We have had lots of snow this winter, but also, lots of warm sunny days. The tulips seem to know just the right time to come up!” (03/18/2019)
From Ashland, OH: Dreama commented, “We were really surprised to see three tulips emerged. Mrs. Robert's and Mr. Munyan's gardens had several tulips that had emerged. We saw two worms in our garden. We like the fact that some of our tulips were up. Some of Mrs. Robert's tulips that came up first looked like the cold hurt them. The tops are flat. We hope the rest of our tulips will emerge. We also hope they do not die.” (03/18/2019)
From Shelton, WA: David and Waynette planted lots of tulip bulbs last Fall and now “They are all up and about 3" tall.” (03/01/2019)
Tracking Change
Study the map to see where there's action!
Inspire students to think and act like scientists as they observe seasonal changes in the garden. Use notebooking sheets to record soil temperatures, measure growth, and draw and describe the garden. Provide a workplace where they can document discoveries and record questions.
