December: Wandering in Winter
It's December
In December, American Robins face diminishing food supplies and harsh weather. Finding food is essential for winter survival. Robins take wandering flights to search for fruits, and are now more common in the south than the north. Some observers report flocks of hundreds and thousands of robins!
Carla in Ivins, UT: "This is the latest or earliest we have had a flock of robins in our complex. I live in a 92 home complex and walking around all I could see was robins. I said 50, but there were probably a lot more." (12/02/2020)
Mary in Alamogordo, NM: "I hadn't seen a Robin for a little while but this time I saw something I had never seen before...I saw 15 that I counted but know there were a bunch more in a flock! It was the coolest thing ever." (12/10/2020)
